From Test Runs to Transformation: Why I’m Stepping Fully Into Wellness Coaching

This past spring, I put out a little experiment to my friends and family:

“Want to be my wellness coaching guinea pigs?”

I was working toward my wellness coaching certificate and needed practice clients—real people ready for fresh starts, new beginnings, and healthier routines. In exchange for being my test subjects, I’d coach them for free, and they’d help me sharpen my skills.

The response? Overwhelming!

Over the past few months, I’ve coached people I love through challenges and breakthroughs—and let me tell you, it’s been nothing short of incredible. Not gonna lie, it wasn’t easy. This has been the busiest season of my life. But watching people discover their own strength and joy has been worth every late night and early morning.

And here’s the plot twist I didn’t see coming: while helping others transform, I’ve experienced a transformation of my own.

The Long Road to Passion

When I was in high school, probably late high school as he realized it was time to start thinking about those next steps (AKA one step closer to an empty nest, I mean college), I remember my dad asking me: “What’s your passion?”

My answer? A shrug.

That did not go over well.

“What do you mean you ‘don’t know’?!”

Sure, I loved reading and hanging out with my friends. I was creative—sometimes drawing, sometimes writing—but nothing stuck. Nothing screamed this is it. And honestly, that made me feel broken.

And it frustrated my dad.

So I followed “interests” instead. They led me down a certain college path and into a career in politics, which took me to some fascinating places, but never sparked true passion. On the side, I volunteered—at church, at the local soup kitchen, in community events. I didn’t know it then, but those small acts of service were planting seeds.

Discovering My “Thing”

Everything shifted when my husband Mark and I decided to focus on our own wellness through nutrition and exercise.

The decision to take our health seriously, like very seriously, changed me—physically and emotionally. And in that change, I discovered my passion: helping others find that same joy and transformation. Suddenly, all those years of volunteering made sense. Service wasn’t just something I did—it was who I was. Wellness gave me a way to live that out more fully.

Zero Free Time, But All In Anyway

Now, here’s the wild part. This season of life has been packed: working full-time, campaigning for a town board seat, stepping into the role of Rotary Club president, and training for my tenth marathon. By all logic, I should not have added wellness coaching to my plate.

And yet… when passion strikes, you follow!

Even though my calendar was already bursting, coaching lit me up in a way nothing else has. I couldn’t not do it. So I carved out space, stretched myself thin, and made a decision—I’m ready to take this further.

What’s Next

Which brings me here: I’m officially opening my calendar to new clients (beyond my immediate family circle 😅).

I’ll be offering personalized one-on-one and group coaching in the key areas that make up real wellness:

  • Nutrition – fueling your body with joy, not restriction
  • Movement – finding activity you love, not dread
  • Social – nurturing relationships and connection
  • Sleep – supporting the body’s natural reset
  • Stress – building resilience without burnout

If you’ve been thinking about making changes in your health and wellness, but don’t know where to start, this is your sign.

Your first call is free—a chance for us to talk about your goals, your roadblocks, and how I can help. You can grab a spot on my calendar here.

I used to think I didn’t have a passion. Turns out, my passion is helping others find theirs—especially when it comes to living a healthier, happier, more balanced life.

And now, I can’t wait to help you.
